Flat Grain Cutting Boards

We classify dark boards as containing more than 50% dark wood.

Center engravings on the front of carvers makes them very hard to clean. By default we will put the engraving on the back of the board, unless the notes say otherwise.

If you live in any part of Southeastern America, have deciduous forests near you, and had the kind of childhood I had, you well know the guilty pleasure of throwing the little spiky sweetgum balls at your siblings. The light yet terrifying missiles soar through the air with a satisfying whistle and reach their target with a clunk and an almost immediate retaliation, beginning a highly enjoyable warfare that continues until concerned adults intervene.

In all those sweetgum fights, few of us stopped to consider the incredible tree that produces the natural cannonballs we collect so zealously. Sweetgum wood is, in fact, invaluable to the market of woodworking across America. This spritely hardwood is much lighter than both Red Oak and White Oak, and the coloration provides an element of pleasant variety in the satiny Sweetgum wood. The wood varies from palest white to deepest auburn with carefree abandon, and Gum Creek incorporates this natural diversity into each unique, beautiful Sweetgum Cutting Board. However, we do understand that some kitchens just can’t accept a wood that doesn’t match, so we can make sure you get the best color for your personal color scheme if you give us a particular request.

Sweetgum wood might dance all over the color spectrum, but its lightness as far as weight is constant, as is its natural satiny feel, making for a quality cutting board even before Gum Creek begins to work our magic. Also, Gum Creek offers several types of styling choices to create the best Sweetgum Gutting Board for your individual kitchen setup. Just like every other wood type we use, Sweetgum cutting boards can either be cut in edge or end grain. Edge grain is a harder cut, but it also stresses knives more than end grain. Both types of cutting boards carry the satiny texture of Sweetgum and portray the intricate grain of the wood. Also available are multiple different sizes of Sweetgum cutting boards, all specifically designed to meet your particular cooking needs. These include Prep, Small, Medium, Large, and Carver. As if that wasn’t enough, Gum Creek Boards also provides custom engraving to make your cutting boards the cream of the crop! Contact us for pricing on engraving your board.
